I like number sequences ;)

Looking at the internal designation numbers for Mercedes-Benz models, does anyone know what happened to the sequence that caused the jump after the 116.

I can guess the 126 is a 116+10 but 123 is not a 113+10.

Did the number of test cars rise dramatically that the associated designation numbers of failed tests were abandoned?

Not everything in this world has a logical explanation ;)

maybe we will never know  8)

I reckon the model numbers are simply arbitrary, and they chose the ones that sounded good.

Still, it'd be interesting to know what the reasoning was when a bunch of whitecoats or suits decided on one, two, skip a few.... for whatever model.

Wild stab in the dark, I wonder if certain numbers were omitted due to them being linked to other trademarks or unfavourable associations led to new series of numbers. :-\ Not that I can think of any and probably completely wrong but here goes..
Taking the Holden Commodore for example and the succession of "V" models, who would want a VD ::) , there's no VW and VV just sounds silly. There's other omissions but mentioning them without an annecdote would spoil my hypothesis. ;D

Holden make no sense at all with the commodore letter designation,

VB, VC, VH, VK, VL, VN, VP, VR, VS, VT, VX, VY then VZ

and now after running through the alphabet, they've decided VE would be a good idea to use. I wonder whats coming next  8)

On a side note, the VE (v6) is the worst car I've ever driven in my life, its a boat - all previous generations were actually somewhat fun to drive.
