Title: W116 project
Post by: brlufer on 30 July 2008, 03:39 PM
Hi,

It's known W108/109 were styled by Paul Bracq and the W126 by Bruno Sacco. Have the W116 a "father"?

tks

Probably and IBM System/360 mainframe and a wind-tunnel given the outcome....

You know, that's an excellent question!

THe W116 was the result of the safety programs of the 60's and was a stylised version of the safety cars that they showed at the time.

Hence the great increase in weight.

The 126 was a stylised version of the same car but with a lot of light weight alloys and lighter but stronger steel panels in an effort to get rid of some of the weight.

Must look in my books and see if there was a "father" as such.

Bill

Either Bruno Sacco or Karl Wilfert, from memory.
