Two 6.9s In The Wrecking Yard

Yesterday I drove almost 2 hours to take parts off of a 1979 6.9 in the wrecking yard. I wanted the Euro headlights, but they had already been taken. I took the seat back which had rear headrests so I can add them to a 300SD when I get one. I also took the large rubber bumper covers and the stainless steel trim. And a metal coolant expansion tank.

When I got home I realized that the bumper covers wouldn't fit the regular USA bumpers so today I drove back there (in my 200D) to get the rest of the bumpers. I removed the front door weatherstripping because they are in great condition.

It was a shame to see a nice 6.9 in the wrecking yard. But then there was ANOTHER one there that looked like it had just come out of the paint shop. The body was in perfect condition with fresh paint and all glass and trim was removed. It did look like it had been outside in the weather for a while as the burled wood (even the shifter was burled wood) was very water damaged. It had wire spoke wheels with knock-off spinner caps (the caps were great condition).

I don't think it's very often you find a 6.9 in the wrecking yard, let alone two. It was interesting the see them in person.

I was going to take the tail lights as well, but on the way back home I stopped to see a guy about some NOS W116 tail lights. He had a set, but they were both left sides. If only I could find someone to trade a right side with me for one of the lefts.

I think that was head light(s). USA tail lights are unique with the ?side reflector?.

i have left over 2 NOS complete left hand euro head lamp assembly's for right hand drive, which came in a bulk shipment of 4 complete units with indicators - only one was a right unfortunately - all lighting units on my car, front and rear are new. I also have the internal reflectors to rebuild either side headlights, brand new.

If i ever run out of room for all the useless crap i've accumulated for this car, ill consider ebaying some of it off one day.
