Saw my first black w116, Perth.

driving along wanneroo road ~5Pm, looks to have black interior too.

badgeless on the rear other than the MB star in the centre. No idea what it was - but it does have an LPG conversion, which is obviously duel fuel as it has a LPG filler mounted in the rear panel to the left of the licence plate, rather than where the normal fuel filler goes.

Its an SEL, looked slightly low in the rear, original paint, quite dirty and driven by an old bloke. Probably had it for years.

Must be hell on a 43 degree day parked in the sun, & I bet its aircon doesn't work either, but i think black really suits these cars, along with silver of course ;)

MT I haven't seen a black w116 in the flesh but in photos they look fantastic.

My favourite two w116 colours - silver and gold.

black w116's are ultra rare in Australia, I wonder if it was even available as an option for us at all.

Nice. Black looks spectacular in a perfect world. 8)

Major Tom: I wish you wouldn't use the term, "an old bloke,." It hurts my feelings.   :'(

dont worry hermersam,
if MT had meant offense he would have said an 'old codger'!

ive seen a few black 116s in perth. there was even a stretched one used in a funeral service at teh show and shine a few years back. tehre is a very nice example (it was badgeless too but in good nic) driving around by a woman i used to see in the metro area within the last couple of years too!

I saw that one around here about six months ago... presumably still owned by the same woman.

A woman driving around in what is one of only a handfull of black W116's in the country?   Dating agencies will be in-undated with requests for women who like romantic dinners, walks along the beach and black W116 mercs.......   :D ;D

People think I'm crazy wanting to paint the car Black, but the driving factor is Black is Black - it's cool... and there's pretty much none of 'em around.  8)

merc enthusiasm is growing.

while procrastinating in the office for the day, i decided to spin around in the chair and look for something to distract me out the window.

I noticed that one of my colleagues has a 560SEC, right underneath my nose and i never noticed it.

I intend to find out who's it is and persuade them into giving me a test drive.  8)

TJ 450

Nice. That would be a good one to test drive.

If it's in good condition, it might be a good benchmark.

it actually looks pretty crap, but as we found out with yours, you can have the biggest pile of rubbish on earth, and still have a ripper of a drivetrain that you ABSOLUTLY should never of given away for the price you did ;)

TJ 450

Very true. That was the best MB drivetrain I have experienced, in that it had a silky smooth idle and I'm sure it was quicker than the 6.9. It was really brutal launching in 1st!

It was just one of many mistakes. ;)

6.9's aren't fast anymore and haven't been for quite some time, current base model falcon 6's are now equal if not slightly quicker to 100km/h. Actual performance cars will make a 6.9 feel like a VW Kombi trying to battle a steep gradient with 45 cars in que behind it honking the horn ;) (or timmy rolling back into and hitting another car) ;)

TJ 450

It doesn't matter what you have, there's always something better, and it all costs money. Not only that, but all of society's sheep must have it tomorrow. 8)

It's all the more reason to be satisfied with what you've got. ;)

LOL, I was so enraged with that POS, if I had a gun I would be on the news and locked up in Casuarina. :o
