Well.....sort of.

Automobile racing is still illegal in Israel unfortunately, so we can only have "instruction days", and are not allowed to compete or measure times. Yesterday I participated in one such instruction day with my W116.

Here are a few pics:

Hopefully I'll soon have a video, so I'll post that too.

The first couple of shots look like a getaway car in a chase scene from a movie.  ;D
Looks like you had fun Nim, look at that chassis roll 8)  It's amazing how far you can push these cars before they let go and how well they track around corners.  Did the instructor get a drive of it and if so, what did he think?

Can I ask why no racing in Israel?  I can't think of a logical reason.

They are great shots.  Remove the street light and cone from the first one, do a bit of cropping and it would make a great poster!

Dude, never saw this till now.  Some great pics of the day nim!!  I'm with Oscar, how is that roll?  They give you so much warning before letting go.

Awesome backdrop too.. it's great, every single pic has a different background.. eg, not all just country etc.. they all have a different aspect background.

I can't think of any reason either why racing isn't allowed?!  I don't think I could handle it..

Did you get any pics of the other cars from the day??

I don't really know why auto races are illegal here. The land was under British rule until 1948, so our law book is based on whatever they left us, and whatever the parliament has passed since. Concerning auto racing, it's not that there was a law against them, there simply wasn't a law regulating them specifically, so it was impossible to get insurance, building permits for the proper facilities, employ the people necessary to run the business etc .

In 2005 the parliament passed the necessary laws making it possible for the various ministries to draft bylaws governing the issue, but they have all been squabbling around it ever since, so it is still not legal to race cars here.

This instruction day was organized by one of the guys in our collector car club. About 30 (out of about 700) members of the club attended the event, as you can see in the following videos. My car can be seen from about min 5:14 in the first video, but unfortunately it was shot during the first laps - I got much better later in the day:

None of the instructors drove the car, but both were impressed with the smoothness of the ride and the relative steadiness of such a large sedan.
