New to the W116

I'm still to W116's. I put up a Silver 1979 300SD with blue interior. Overall I like the car for what it is. Everything on the car seems to be original. Every time I jump in the car it feels like I when back in time. (I'm still in my 20's).  What made me buy the 300SD was for it's classic cool factor. (i.e. Old Radio with push button Pre-set's, Blue seat, rear seat reading light). It was a better pick over a older Civic or carmy.

Since I had my 300SD I have fixed a things here and there, since it seems like the last owner didn't have a clue on basic car maintenance.

1) Changed the Front brake pads
2) One of the pistons was stuck in the front passenger brake caliper.
3) Fixed the power windows
4) replaced the fuel return line on the bottom of the fuel tank.
5) replaced old used battery with a Optima Red Top
6) replaced all the old paper speakers with Pioneer Speakers

This weekend I plan to change all the fluids and filters. But I can't figure out what kind of transmission fluid to use. Dextron II/ Dextron III/ Mercedes Benz ATF?

I ordered all my parts from autohausaAZ, which is a really good site. Also I found this site Diesel Giant which is a really good DIY site.

welcome munky.  I've been using Castrol Transmax M for a while.  The label on the back said it's suitable for older euro autos such as Mercedes Benz and lists a few others.  That was good enough for me.

Dexron III or Transmax M should be perfectly fine for these transmissions.
