FYI, the June edition of the Aussie Mag Unique Cars has a feature on the 6.9 and 6.3 including reference to Craig Tucker's cars.

i just bought this yesterday, i love dropping 8 bucks for 4 pages of reading.
his 6.3 is pretty damn awesome.  unless i am mistaken, i think the jeff kennet 6.9 is coming to WA (no not me).
I like the title of the article ('HO beater', referring to GTHO falcon), kind of sounds like PB on the weekend! ;) we've all seen the shannons ad with the claim that the GTHO was the fastest four door onthe planet in the early 70s (ok!).  however, it doesnt do any head to head action and then states they are on a par.  i would stlil put 100 on the table that if you dyno tested the 6.3 and timed the 100 dash or quarter, that the 6.3 would lay it down on the tin Ford (not forgetting you would do it in some degree of comfort and your fillings would still be in your mouth).  Aussie car manufacturers claims are so wild that their figures should be taken with a pinch of salt.  Saying that, the article states the 6.3 had 224kW and the 6.9 213kW which is incorrect. from memory, the 6.3s put out about 195kW.
my rant is now over!

LMAO.  I read it as Hoe first up.  I thought an apt reference to the Ford.

That Shannon's ad bugs me everytime it comes on.  Go back to the Goggomobil ad and the funny Scotsman.

They have made the mistake of converting SAE HP to Kw instead of DIN HP. It should be around 183kw. CT's 6.3 has been in his family all it's life, and has had a LOT of money spent on it. The 6.9 is indeed on it's way to WA. Should actually be there now.

Hello. Unfortunately the new owner of the Kennet 6.9 does not also own an m-100...

Let me know when your next meeting is and I'll do my best to get there, along with the 6.9.

Nice to be here, on the forum.

And so we all know who we are communicating with, your first name is ? Actually I know it, but it is not up to me. Just makes it somewhat more personal I think.

Thanks for making me welcome. In answer to your question, Craig, my given name is Dave, and I'm happy to join what appears to be a strong and loyal band of 6.9 (indeed, all w116) owners on the forum.

I have had the Kennet car in my garage for 2 weeks (exactly, as of today) and it has won me over with its incredible combination of performance and comfort, not to mention a certain degree of retro-charm. I have already driven the car around 500kms, which is quite a bit given the car has been in workshops for 6 of those days...

My daily ride is a W140 S500. The 140 is my first Mercedes, having owned a couple of BMWs and a Porsche 911. I also drive an old Range Rover, so yeah, the price of petrol is hurting me a little.

Anyway, it was kind of cool seeing "my" car in "Unique Cars" magazine. I remember reading about Fangio's Australian visit when I was in my early teens. I recall the article included a photograph of Fangio looking over his left shoulder into the lens of the photographer's camera who was seated in the rear. I think the caption mentioned something about the (highly illegal) speed the car was travelling at the time.

That's when I became hooked on the 6.9; so to own the very car that was the subject of that magazine article and catalyst of my interest in all Mercedes Benz S-class vehicles, I consider it a great privilege.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Looking forward to reading and learning more. Safe motoring to you all.

Green with envy!
Silver Green that is.
I read the Unique Cars story too, and for sure that was on my Dream Garage wish-list.
Maybe I need to move to WA?
(After I invade Iraq!)
