melbourne 6.9 seen

ok, in 5 days or so of being here - i have now seen 3 116s.
two POS', and yesterday, a silver 6.9 in good condition!
plate 450 690, all windows down and roof open as a mid/older gentleman cruised along in town (flemington road way)!

i now know i have OCD.
i was driving 'home' tonight and saw a 116 in a mechanics in north melbourne (90secs from my place)...i thought i saw a glimmer where the badge should be and after dropping the wife home and turning aroudn to inspect, discovered it to be a 6.9 i had already logged! SQC 658 in zircon blue was on carpoint for 20 grand 2 years ago but i recall this ad being 'slightly' exagerated and the car was on its haunches then. it remained with its suspension down and was very dusty, as in not having been driven in a very long time.  my phone pics were really crap and not worth posting. i might need to enquire if this automobile is for purchase! ill leave it at RobertDs 
so i now have 2 6.9s in a week, at this rate ill have 50 by the time i leave!!

A dangerous addiction Nathan.
I keep finding interesting cars (not just limited to 6.9s, I am a real Benz tart) and am easily tempted. We have no room for more toys here, no wonder my wife has a fit everytime she catches me looking at another Benz.
Maybe you should drive faster? Or blindfold? Or both?

Hi Nathan, did that 6.9 have a brilliant silver color like it was professionally painted yesterday? If so i saw that same car tramping it at the intersection opposite Melbourne's Parliament House back in 2005, could not get my camera out quick enough (that is not a credit to the cars speed  )

While you are in Melbourne you must visit my mate Khoury who has a small shop with a huge collection of Mercedes and parts and he may even take you to his big warehouse where the collection is even bigger 

The tram you catch is the one that snakes past the parliament but will search out his business card and give you better details, i am sure you and he will get on fine 

I remember in his warehouse he had a low kilometer 6.3 from a Grosser apparently, i meant to let Clarkson on TopGear know but couldn't get his email    (just in case he killed his Grosser motor)

Hi Nathan that  6.9 has been at that workshop in north melbourne now for about 4 months and hasn't moved. I inspected the car about two years ago at the owners home near St Kilda but he couldn't get it started at the time even after trying to jump start it with his wife's car. From what i remember at the time the car had rust in the roof, doors and sills, and the car was sitting on the floor as it is now.
About a week before Christmas i walked into the workshop were it is now and had another look. I spoke to the mechanic who said he had to do some work on it, he also said the owner still wants to sell the car and said i could have his number if i wanted.

my folks were visiting Melbourne over the last week. driving them to their hotel (they did not wish to stay with their son for some reason!), they made me stop at the bottle shop (liquor store to our NA friends).  the bloke at the counter commented on the nice old 123 to my dad. he then went on to comment he was trying to restore his dads old car, a 450sel 6.9...what are the odds!  anyhow, i told him about the org. and we had a chat, so i hope George is reading this and joins up!
