I May Be Joining The W116 Crowd Again

It has been 4 months since I sold my 1979 300SD with Euro lights and manual windows and I must say I am really starting to miss it! Right now I drive a 1968 W110 200D fintail, which is also a great car, but that W116 sure was something special.

I am currently searching for another 300SD in either black, brown, or beige. I want to convert the headlights to Euro lights on this one as well and convert the ACCII to manual (I have all the necessary parts). I also have rear heated seat parts that I can add to it.

I have a storage unit full of spare parts that I have lots of time and money into that apparently aren't worth what I have into them, so I might as well use them for something! I am prepared to throw my 200D and 230S into the mix if necessary. I am hoping to find another one with little to no rust. I have a spare engine and transmission if I find a super nice one with bad drivetrain. I hope to be posting my new find shortly!

once the w116 addiction bights, its there for good you realise - You may be able to convince your self that your out of them for good, but in reality you will always miss the times shared in one. As I explained to another forum member recently who questioned my faith, there are worse addictions to have in this world, ones that leave your mind and body scarred for life. At least with this one, you have something to show for it at the end of the day, and receive the (almost) same level of euphoria when driving one after the personal achievements involved in getting it to that awesome stage.

I have my eyes on a car that is identical to the one I sold (a 1979 300SD in Milan brown). It's somewhat local and I am hoping to buy it if it is as nice as it seems.

Also, how many 300SDs do you think were built with front and rear heated seats? I thought it was a common option since my parts car had them, but so far I have only seen them on 6.9s. Check out the build sheet of a parts car I used to have:

I bought a set of chrome 15" X 7" Centra wheels with the gold star! I also got spacers (don't know if I will need them), 20 wheel bolts, and the lock tool. Now I just need a car to put them on along with the zebrano console piece without window switches that I just bought.

I am buying another set of chrome 15" X 7" Centras tomorrow! Haha! More to add to my hoard. Now I should be able to have a fairly nice set of 4 plus a spare to go in the trunk well of this car that I hope to buy. I just hope that after all of these parts I am buying for a W116 that I will be able to actually afford the car!

I think the set I bought today is a knock-off. There is no brand name on the wheels and the star emblems are much smaller than the first set. Too bad, because I was hoping to mix and match the eight to make a good set of 5. Now I have to choose between one set or the other, and each set has its flaws. Both have flaking chrome. The real Centra set has a broken center cap, while the knock-off set has nice center caps, but they have smaller stars.
