Taken from an old Clarkson special "Motorsport Mayhem", Brian Carson an American stunt driver jumps a W116 200+ feet.  There's another mention on another youtube clip exactly how far but I can't find it.

That's extreme. 8) How many other W116's have been airborne for that distance? ;D

Nearly two..... Well, not quite that far ::) .  Last year a colleague bought 20 acres with a condemned weatherboard house which needed removal by way of inferno.   Before the day of the bonfire we thought it would be cool to drive the wrecking milan brown '77 280se up a dirt ramp and through the living room and hopefully out the other side, but it didn't happen.

Two things were missing for this stunt.   Prior to my ownership the car had previously hit a rock near the sump, pinching an A/T cooler line, unkowingly draining the A/T oil and stuffing the transmission.  Even if topped up it needs a whole lot of revving to get going and I never got it over 20km/h.

The other thing missing was a pair of large testicles.  I was chicken after dwelling on all the "what if's". ::)

But you look at that guy Carson.  It's a huge jump and a very fast stop regardless of there being a bunch of cars to soften the landing.  It's amazing he survived.  FWIW, you look at some of his other jumps on youtube in old US cars, the w116 handles flying rather well. ;D

It's actually quite amazing how intact the car remained after the impact as well. Still, he is definitely lucky he survived.
