Gents,

Now dog owners are know to be pretty quirky and passionate about their own dogs, probably with good reason, and perhaps a little like we are with our W116's. I have a chubby Pug and I swear he has a favorite car. I drive a diesel W123 daily and perhaps it is the smell of diesel exhaust or the slippery leather seats, or the vibration of the engine, but Winston the Pug sniffs the air after I start up the car he gets a little apprehensive. As soon as the doors of the diesel open, out he jumps.

I was working on my 450 SEL yesterday, and as he always does, he jumped uninvited in the open door and then perched in the passenger seat contently gazing out the window. I have seen this pattern of behaviour before many times. Even if I am working outside, or around and about, he wants to sit in the passenger seat. Looking at me with those big brown eyes hoping we will take her out for a spin.

Now the quirky part. I was finished my tasks, and it was time to go to work, so I beckoned to him to come out of the car. As is always the case, I have to coax.. almost bribe him to come out. He loves that car. He feels safe in it and he would be content to sit and sleep by the hour in the passenger seat. Like me, he has a favorite car, and like his owner, he feels a very special attachment to it. Call me crazy, ... but I know it is true.

when i had my verry first W116 i also had a dobermann pincher and he was always verry relaxed in that car he loved sleeping in the backseat when the car was parked and while driving he always lays his head next to my headrest and he looks concentrated at the road , he wasnt an easy dog but in the car he was like a baby

My friend's cat loves sleeping in my 300E, on my motorbike or poking around the engine bay of my W116! She is a real petrolhead cat!

where my 6.9 lives there are 2 cats and several others in the neighborhood. I always find cat paw prints in the dust that settles on my  car during the very large gaps between drives. Currently 4 months and counting ;)

I'm fairly certain to this day none of them have urinated on the car - if that were to change, they might have an unfortunate meeting with a mossberg 500.

on my girlfriends 280SL there is always an big red cat who loves to sleep on the softtop she never use the hardtop i think the last time was 12 years ago that the hardtop was on the car so the big red cat never misses his beloved softtop , and she dont mind cats sleeping on the car and me either , and she likes the cat is red so he matches with the outside and the interior  :)

they're funny stories.  I couldn't let our Labrador in the 350.  He'd chew through the leather in no time at all.

But speaking of dogs and cars, I'm surprised no one has posted a pic of the rotti' pups in the back of a w123.  Used to be in a lot of poster racks in shopping malls in the 90s. ;D

Love my dogs and I love my cars, but the last time I put my Pitt in the back seat of my 6.9, he threw up back there. The boy doesn't travel well. My old min pin used to be a great car traveler and would be happy looking out of the windshield or lying down on the passenger seat all day and all night, and we did on many 850 mile trips between Texas and Georgia.

It's not just a canine phenomenon - felines too.

Whenever I'm working on the car if I turn my back for two seconds the cat will be perched on the parcel shelf, looking content.

If it's not on the parcel shelf he'll be walking along my work bench, flicking carefully arranged screws/clips etc onto the ground.

Just took Billy to the vet again today to get his heart worm medication and he threw up in the back seat of my 560sec. So it's official, this boy doesn't travel well.

We are now on our fifth Black Standard Poodle (over 20 years) and all have have had to go to the groomers every fortnight.

Two have vomited every trip and three were excellent travellers.

My wife was t-boned coming back from a trip to the Groomer last year and the dog who was in the car has refused to get into that car ever since. On the one occasion she was forced in she shrieked and howled the entire time she was in the car.

She now travels by Ford Falcon.

Dog - Django a three-year-old Golden Retriever.
Car - W123 280E with 370,000kms dark blue MB Tex trim tinted glass and cold air, that's his favourite, whether just going across to the beach or a longer trip he lies across the back seat.
Or, sometimes the 190E which unfortunately has black cloth seats (white hairy dog - not good) and air-con currently busted. He will get in it eventually, but not his favourite.
The 450SLC would be difficult to get him in anyway, but the blue velour seats mean no dogs, so he hasn't tried that one.
The 280SE Crayford wagon was a laugh though, he is ok on the back seat, but in the back with the seat down, he didn't get it. Too much room and no comfy cushion to lean on, he kept walking around in circles and not sure what to do.
That's why we call the 280E Django's car.

Our cocker spaniel shows no interest in the 6.9 but always demands to get into our BMW for a quick spin. Perhaps I should indulge him some time and take him to an animal psychologist.

My dog loves to drive in my Mercedes w124, 250 D. Sometimes when he is running around outside and doesnt want to come in to the house I just open the car door and asks if he wants to go for a spin. He cant get in there fast enough :) Hopefully I can hold him outside of my w116 though... :P
