I used to see this 280 SE park near my place about 10 years back.  Back then, it was at least as good as my car.

Regards,

Carl.

A shame to see a good car become so neglected in a relatively short space of time. I hope someone got a lot of use out of it.

geez, as good as whitey? must have been pretty tidy. looks alright in the pics and the fact it still has its becker suggests it was a loved car.

i dont need a 280, but i think Foss needs some parts. if he buys it, ill split it for the interior for goldie (which i have no idea what state its in as its 4000km away!)

Matt, u could drive it back to sydney!

If I had space I would Nathan.  I think for the moment it's best not to start any (more) projects I don't have the time to finish!

It went for $686.  Not a bad price.

One of the bidders is showing up as "n***m" in the bidding history.  Nathan ... I though you only collected 6.9s??

Was anyone on the forum the winner?

Tell 'im he's dreaming.

For a "6.8" that engine looks remarkably similar to my 450.

What's going on with that console?  Looks very unusual around the gear stick.

It's 4.5 bored out to 6.8  ;D

Notice the 3 dials and switch on the lower centre console?  What's all that for again?

A lot can happen in 10 years, unfortunately.

Here's a real bargain (not ::)). This one's in the ACT.

That was a VERY nice car once apon a time - #172 anthrcitegrau, black leather, and loaded with expensive options.

On the console, from the rear working forward, first is the VK5 Verkerskurier control (car would have had a Mexico Vollstereo Reverse), then the Webasto block pre-heater control, then what I believe is an external temp guage.  Its all factory, and due to this load of extras, the car has a custom one-off console woodwork - in Burl too.  Damn I would buy that car (after negotiating a more reasonable price of course).
In the pic of the engine bay, half way up on the extreme right, the edge of the webasto unit can just be seen.

A shame it's been left to get so bad.  Sounds like it would be worth restoring though, if you could pick it up at a reasonable price.

It would be interesting to know it's history.  Presumably from Europe, who owned it, what's a LHD w116 doing in Aus and definitely is and always was a 4.5L.  LHD cars no matter what marque always seem to command less $ in Aus than what RHD factory versions do unless it's a significant vehicle that will end up in a museum.

Lots of wonderful equipment indeed. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so harsh on the poor old car. I wouldn't be surprised if it had heated seats as well.

Still, I reckon the seller has no idea... I'd offer him $500 and kit out the 6.9 with that gear. ;D

It's a bit like the LHD 6.9 I saw in Balga... it also had a host of unusual options, including those gauges, and the heated seats.

Tim,
u dont need to offer anyone anything!
remember the "6.9" was in fact 6.834L capacity so its really a 6.8 and not a 6.9 so he would be right if it had this engine. however, as pointed out, 116033 on the VIN, its a 450.
i like all those crazy dials and i has burl. how far is canberra from melbourne!?!

Canberra is approx. 660km from Melbourne and is certainly closer to Sydney.

Nathan, I know you want that 450. ;)
