W116.org

We had an outage over the past 11 hours due to an attempted hack of our server. This is now resolved and all services are operating normally. There was NO unauthorised access to any of the files or data of this particular forum or the W116.org site generally.

Gee, i wonder where that originated from

Who i wonder would have anything to gain by taking down the org and disrupting its extremely limited niche demographic.

I'll be interested to know the originating IP of the attack and peruse the log files. Though it was probably bounced through a proxy in some third world country to disguise the cowards identity.

I somehow thought it was my work not allowing the address cause it was a blank white page.. and then when I logged on with my crackberry at home it came up last night.  I though, fark.. don't tell me I have to use my crackberry for the org from now on....

But all good.

Attack probably could've come from anywhere, I see your point Tom.. and I know one shouldn't ever 'discredit' people for having the smarts to do such a thing.. but realistically, I don't think the capability is there for someone to attack the 'niche' market as suggested. 
But, then again.. you never know.

Its awesome chatting to friends on msn messanger all through the work day while i should be working too - gives something to do at the numerous red lights in perth too 

I think what Admin is saying is that the web server used to host this site also hosts other sites and that this site was not the target of the hack attempt.

Shared hosting is the most common way sites are hosted and if an attack on another site brought the server down, this site would go down as well.
