Hepp

Can anyone post a good picture of the waterpump / thermostat housing on a M110 922 engine? That would be the 280 s carburetor model.

Thanx

Have a look here : Link

These photos show my 280SE.  The 280S components are similar - there is an additional port on the side of the thermostat for water take-off to the carb.

Is the water take-off to the carburetor on the thermostat housing or on the water pump?

As far as I know it is on the thermostat housing.

That's a gem of a link sclass. We really need those kind of threads as sticky's or in a kind of quick reference database.

I've got a hunch that what I said in one of your previous threads Janse might be right.  That is, your thermostat housing may have a plug screwed into where it can be replaced by an attachment. I've looked over sclass' photos as well as taken some of my red 280S that I'm dismantling plus had a look at my k-jet wreck that appears to have a plug too like sclass' k-jet.

The first 4 photos are of my red 280S. The last one from sclass' k-jet.

The first photo shows the pipe leading to the thermostat housing.

Next, that line connects, via a short rubber hose, to the attachment screwed into the thermostat housing.

Thermostat housing part number 110 203 04 73.  One of sclass' photos I can nearly make out the same number. (though it only takes one number for it to be completely different, but I reckon they are the same ;) )

Looking closely where the arrow's pointing, there's a brass hex headed attachment which I presume is screwed into the thermostat. The bulging end of the short hose is directly to the right of it.

Sclass's photo below from a different angle shows a hex headed plug which is screwed into the same position.  I can just make out the same setup being present in my k-jet wreck as well.

It's impossible to get a good view of this without removing the top rad hose, fan shroud, fan and the pulley behind the fan.  The only reason I could get photos of the red 280S thermostat because all that, plus the radiator has been removed.  The good news is Janse, I really don't think you'll have to source another thermostat housing.  You just have to get a threaded attachment to go where the plug is and make up some piping to go to the intake manifold and carb.

Oscar, I'm sorry but I think I'm going to have to disappoint you.  That thermostat housing on my 280SE is a replacement that came off a 280S, and I plugged the port as you see there.  The original 280SE item is solid in that area - it had never had the port machined in.

My housing is also solid in that area, but there is a short bit sticking out of it that may be possible to drill open and just connect with a short hose and some tubing. Just been on holiday so haven“t been thinking about cars for 11 days :) Hopefully I will get around to it before I have to go back to work :) Fantastic being a teacher :) 2 whole months free every summer :P Why doesn't everybody teach :P

Yo

I just seem to see the part number on your thermostat housing S class, And it looks like it says 110 203 04 73, in that case it is a 280S thermostat housing, cause the partnumber of the SE is 110 203 06 73. Anyway, I removed my housing today and it looks like it is possible to drill a hole and attach a pipe to it somehow :)

My 280 s finally turned over today!!!!! It shot a bit of fuel out of the carb, but I think its just a matter of fine tuning the distributor. Just need to fix the cooling for the carb, air the clutchsylinder, install the relay for the electrical fuelpump and get an MIT, or MOT, I dont know... street legal anyway :) Hopefully I will make one trip with it this year before the snow comes and I have to put it in hibernation for the winter :)

Hi there -

I am looking for thermostat housing parts for 1975 280S -
part numbers are 1102030574 and 1102030473. The agents here have them but they want to charge the earth - literally. Any ideas where to get cheaper ones?

Thanks in advance.
