Having fabricated the "Koan M-100 Compressor" and finding it doesn't fit an M117 motor I have subsequently found a couple of alternatives if anyone is snterested.

The first is an engineer's design for the M-117 compressor and is included below

If you don't want to spend the whole weekend making a valve spring compressor you can purchase the M110 model which probably will also fit the M116/7 motor here

Thanks very much for this WGB.  I've had in mind a tool that would require a lifting of the handle motion to compress the spring rather than a push down motion.  I was going about it all wrong.  I'm short a few bits of machinery to fabricate anything too complicated so mine will be very rudimentary but that adjustment bolt has given me ideas.  I need to make sure the tool fits an m116 and m110 and will have both covers off when do test fits of the main attachments.

BTW, what is this tool for, the purple part?

The purple part sits on the top of the ball and is used to gauge the height of the ball from the head.  The notch is used as the go/no go gauge.

That tool is where I started from but having ordered the original from e-tools courtesy of Papalangi I will not be making it (Hopefully).

It is only used for initial adjustment of hydraulic tappets and isn't used for adjustable ones like Oscar gets involved in.

RonB on the M-100 site put me onto the specs for the "go-no-go" tool and as you can see that compressor was on the same 126 German site.

I knew you were interested Oscar and as well the M100 one popped up on the etools site which looks like it could probably be used for an M116/7 as well.

Thanks Papa and WGB.   I was going to ask about whether that tool I pictured was just for hydraulic tappets which you've just answered.  I'll see how I go making the compressor tool.  I'll have to make it, the price of the compressor is a bit rich for my liking and I've got a list of parts to get that's steadily increasing not to mention a full set of lifters plus a new adjustment tool since my 2nd hand one is worn and responsible for rounding some of the lifters' adjustment nuts.  Always blame the tools

Job 05-250, http://handbook.w116.org/Engine/107/M117_45/05-250.pdf shows the compressor in use.  Makes the drawing much clearer for me.  I'll probably build one for myself.  We have a plasma cutter, mill, lathe and all the goodies needed to make one.  That and a co-worker that just loves to make things for me.
