Swaybar Links

I thought I would start a new thread, as I don't recall there being one stating the differences between swaybar links on these cars. This is in comparison to the cars that employ a link with two balljoints of either steel or plastic construction.

Below are pics of the swaybar links on both my 450SEL and 450SEL 6.9. Neither of these designs employ a balljoint as such.

TJ, thanks heaps for going to the effort.  8)  Huge difference isn't there with the 280's etc. 

Since hawaiiw116's new 4.5 450sel is a 1979 it's going to be like these pics then isn't it?  If so my advice is wrong.   Can these types of links fail??  Could that still be hawaiiw116's problem?

There does seem to be a large difference.

As far as failure is concerned, it seems to be a fairly failsafe arrangement although I wouldn't rule it out as such. I would still rate it high on the list of things to check.

FWIW, when I recently replaced the links on my '79 350, the replacements from the agents were identical to the originals - ball joint at each end and the part no's started with 114...
and were dirt cheap...
