what the fudgecicle is that?

Is your car D-Jet ?

I've never seen that fuel pump cage setup before.

It looks like D-jet, but the hose between the damper and the pump is longer than usual, and the filter looks like some funny aftermarket item.  The correct D-jet filter is similar in size to the K-jet one.

adjustment of rear level control height on SLS equipped cars is done by shortening or lengthening the ball socketed connecting rod between the leveling valve and the rear stabilizer bar.

if there is no suspension valve at the rear, no obvious place for it to connect, no suspension spheres, struts or hydraulic hoses or suspension pump and reservoir in the engine bay - you do not have SLS  :P

I do not see the tank in the engine bay, the only picture ive seen of your engine bay isnt of a suitable angle anyway so cant really see anything.

if your car does not have SLS, adjustment of the rear suspension height was accomplished with different thickness rubber spring cups for the suspension springs. MB springs can be lethal if played with without the correct tool, be mindful of this ;)

Also, if your car has SLS and the rear is too high, you may want to consider the spheres. I have confirmed that my 450 has flat spheres and that is at least one of the reasons the rear is too high on that car. The ride is also terribly unforgiving.

that may well do something undesirable to the level control system with the struts being hydraulically locked.

Are you going to replace them any time soon to see what happens ?

Hi Tim, have a look at the response i got from Autohausaz when i queried the Spheres i recently received for my 450 SEL...

QuoteThank you again for submitting your order 465061 with AutohausAZ.
According to our listings and the listings from our supplier, part
number 126 320 07 15 would be the correct accumulator sphere used on the
450SEL model 73-80. The other sphere, part number 123 320 02 15, it
correct for only the 190E 16V 86-87, 300TD 79-81, 300TDT 82-85, 560SEC
86-91, and 560SEL 86-91.

I will be replacing those spheres, plus I kept the SLS struts from the 126 so I could get fresh boots onto them, and fit them to the 450. The driveline vibration is actually from the half shafts, as they are operating on an angle that was not intended.

Goldacre,
I'll have to check the EPC for those, I think. The fact that AutohausAZ suggests that three are required is a bit suspect.
