Title: M117 4.5l Fuel Mileage Survey
Post by: pez on 03 September 2008, 11:36 AM
Hello to all. I was wondering what everyone out there is getting for fuel mileage on their M117 motors [well maintained]? I should add that mine is a K-Jet [mechanical] M117.

I have the early Djet version and I get about 14l per 100km on the highway (110km/h). When driving 70-90 km/h it is about 12,5l/100 km. City driving is over 20l/100km (although I've never city driven the car for a whole tank).

I change air filter and engine oil by the book, but I haven't changed the spark plugs for a long time.

Somewhere around 13MPG on a nine mile, 15 minute one way commute in a 1976 450SEL K Jet car.

All time high of 17MPG at 75MPH.

4.5 litre - 15 imperial MPG - about 18 litres per 100 km in mixed running.

I had a friend who owned one in the late 1970's and he boasted that he could get up to about 18 imperial mpg on a trip but I reckon it was Bulls&&t

A 6.9 is not much worse than a 4.5.

Basically its poor. The car new struggled to achieve 20 mpg and now most models are shall we say run in, this figure is more like 15. I do puzzle why fuel economy would be an issue for an owner of an elderly large engined V8 car? A Jaguar, Cadillac or BMW of similar vintage will consume similar excessive amounts of petrol. I for one am glad I have the choice to drive such cars. It will be a very dark day indeed when I am forced, due to financial restrictions or Government pressure, to buy a vegetable-oil burning South East Asian roller skate for transport.
