Sorry to bring this back up but I'm about to buy the pump. Should I replace the housing too or should that be ok?

I'm no expert on water pumps, not been there - yet

The pump housing changed on 6.9s at some time, don't know about other engines, make sure the bought pump will fit your housing

If you can buy the whole lot for a modest amount above the price of a kit... GO FOR IT.

If the housing is original it may pay you to do the big job now and avoid stuffing around again in the future.
