Removing old silicone sealant

So I'm replacing the ratty exhaust manifolds on my 280SE with the newly ceramic-painted items.

I pulled the old ones off and discovered that years ago, I coated the aluminium exhaust gaskets with VHT silicone sealant - and of course its stayed on the head, rather than coming off with the gaskets.

Access to the area is really poor - are there any tricks for effectively and easily removing silicone?

There is a silicone remover available, but the pressure pack gasket stripper might do the job.

I still can't find this elusive pressure pack gasket remover!!.  I may just try brake-clean - which is usually surprisingly effective on just about everything.

I'm pretty sure I used this Permatex one when I removed the front crankcase cover from the 6.9.

It is worth noting that it can destroy or damage rubber parts, as well as painted surfaces and the like.
