How if at all possible? I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined but there HAS to be a way to bypass this pump, mine is now seized. I cannot stand, for the time being, the awful idle! Please help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, the air injection system is stand-alone and a seized pump won't affect the running of the car per se.

This is unless you are talking about a vacuum pump on a diesel.

Yeah, just take the belt off or fit a shorter belt.

New rebuilt pumps are about $40 - $50, nothing special about M-B air pumps, shop around.

Ok then it's a bad. Vacuum leak ?

Big_Richard

where are you located?

if in the northern hemisphere and the car is running poorly in the winter time, this opens up a whole new can of worms.

Theres a reason people fill in their location information, it makes this kind of thing easier. ;)

Art

Yes I live near Vancouver Canada, A very humid and rainy area no snow. I am sure I plugged in that info. Thanks, Art

What ya drivin' over there stranga...?

When you say "I cannot stand, for the time being, the awful idle", you are not blaming the air pump for the idle are you?

It isn't going to be air pump causing bad idle, so ignore my suggestion about fan belts.

I thought you were talking about an awful noise at idle, old stuffed air pumps make a lot of noise.
