1974 450SE valve adjusting nut stuck

Hi all

Have been doing a valve adjustment and number six exhaust adjusting nut will not budge in any direction.
All other cylinders reset with no dramas, any clues as to how to shift this without removing the camshaft?.

Had the same problem and couldn't think of any other way than with the cam off and a long socket on it. Even then it was hard going. Be pleased to learn of a better way. A previous owner had also rounded a few off.

Im sure the last cowboy to do these was a moron. all valves on cold didn't even have 10 thou clearance, not even the exhaust.
Im pretty sure that my idle issues were caused by this, anyway have managed to free up the culprit and now in the process of
assembling. will post results when done

Well folks

Reset al the valves as per manual, 10 thou intake and 20 thou exhaust cold, guess what?
now it sounds like a diesel chaf cutter.

why is it nothing will ever go according to the manual?

Had it with this thing, next stop the crusher.

Should be OK. How about the oil? Used to have a Jaguar that sounded like a bag of bolts being shaken when started but quietened down when the oil got round. You said you were taking the cam off suppose it has been torqued down and the clearances checked again?

all done with great care and precision, both banks are noisy, not just the one with the cam off. Let it run until 80 degrees and didnt go away at all.

Now i will do it again and halve the clearances.

Just about had enough of this crap.

Would seem to be the answer. Elsewhere in the manual it talks of fitting the rocker with no perceptible play and 10 thou of a mm is not much anyway. Danger would be of the valve not closing.
