W116 windscreens

Locally in South Africa, for most models of vehicles, one has two options for windscreens.  Usually there are original dealer-supplied items, plus aftermarket copies made by a company here near Johannesburg.  They supply all the major auto glass fitment franchises.  These locally made screens comply with all the relevant local safety requirements etc.

For some time now, the locally made screens have been NLA, as is the case with finnys and W108 chassis cars.  Some enterprising local MB club members have had runs of finny and W108 screens made by the same manufacturing company here.  I am looking into doing the same for W116 screens.  Surprisingly, only 10 orders are needed to make it viable.  Runs are in multiples of 10.  It would appear that if I order only 10, the cost will be about $275 each.  This will be sufficient to pay for the screens and offset the cost of making the mould.  The mould is taken from a sample original (used is fine) screen that I will provide.

This is no help to anyone outside of South Africa, but I mention it here for interest sake.

It's a shame that they weren't already available, but it does indeed sound like a good opportunity to have a run manufactured.

I just ordered a windshield for my w116 today! the guy at the shop said after market windshields are generally not a problem. Whats really important to get a good fit is original window rubbers as aftermarket ones often fit poorly.
