Trunk Leak

To remove the taillight you must first remove the bulb holder (by releasing the black plastic thumb-wheels).  The tail light must then be removed as a complete unit.  THere are 6 or 7 little nuts (8mm) accessible from inside the trunk.  Once the unit is out, the lens and body can be separated.  You will then see that the seal is quite interesting.  The one seal performs two functions - sealing between the lens and the light body, and sealing between the complete unit and the car sheet metal.  Once you have the unit out, it should be self explanatory.

The trunk seal is unlike the door seals (which are retained simply by forcing them into the metal channel).  The trunk seal must be glued in.  The preferred method is to use contact adhesive, but not in the normal manner.  Apply the glue to the metal channel, not the seal, and then work the seal into position while the glue is still wet.  This allows you some scope to maneuver it into postion.

I only know the trunk had no adhesive factory, or at least mine don't. The new one just popped in but I put some silicone on for good measure. Once you start taking the old one out just pay attention to how its put in.
P.S when this its apart   is a good time to treat any rust or dirt

Do you need to soak the white film off the new seals before installing? Do I need an 8mm wrench to remove the little silver clips which hold the tail lights in place?

Thanks

Did you check the drain hose(s) from the fuel filler cap compartment to the outside of the car for leaking?

An 8mm wrench will do just fine. I know what you mean about the white film. I would try soapy water.

The drain hoses are OK. I'm pretty sure its the tail light seals. Too cold out here to get the hose out and test for leaks. I did buy new seals. All will be installed in the spring.

Also my wells on each side of the trunk get damp after car wash or heavy rain. Has anyone replaced the tubing from the sunroof? If so how do you do it?

Thanks
