At the risk of looking all silly, starting a non-starter, I would like to see if there's people here ho have restored, or will restore the sun visors.
I would sure like to learn about this.

Hello Floyd

If you are talking about the dark stains that appear on the back of the sun visa and the tops of door panels,
yes I have had a go at these on one of my 6.9's that I have been restoring.
I had them spayed with a good vinyl paint, they came up like new.

I will see if can find some before and after pics.

Rob

have now attached photos of the full interior that had the door cards restored to remove the dark stains

I have used vinyl dye to great success on my MG.  I plan on doing the same with my 6.9.

Thanks Rob.
I've been wanting to do my visors for years.

Is there a "brand" of vinyl dye I should look for? And any suggestions where to source such a product?

Count me in on that question. I have an entire parchment interior from my 350, that I'd like to dye moss green to have spares for Goldie. I can use a spray can/gun just fine, but know nothing about vinyl-specific dyes :)

I used Leathique

https://leathermagic.com/mercedes-interior-colors/

They have a lot of standard MB colors, or will custom match anything else.

That all looks great and works with visors that are only discolored.
My question was broader. What if the visors are swollen, bulging, the edge around the mirror has let loose, or the mirror has faded and needs replacement?
How does one go about and restore that?

I have envisioned getting a spray-gun with glue and inject glue into the visors, after which the visors are packed into a vacuum bag and connected to a vacuum pump.
Others must have better ideas.
Also not sure what I will find if I tear out the mirror, wanting to replace it with a better one.
Also thought of re-spraying the mirror with chrome-paint. Is that even possible?

As long as the dyes are solvent based they'll work well and will be very resistant to flaking/peeling off.  The water based dyes, such as the dyes that World Upholstery sells, are useless.  They take two days to dry, and the dye will flake peel off far too easily.

Stan, I wonder if JustDashes.com can repair sunvisors to the extent that you are asking about?  Their work is good, but they have  a really bad habit of using the incorrect materials, and they charge too much for the end product because of that.  Just a thought, though.

I had the interior done by a leather and vinyl specialist in Ocean Grove.
I will give him a call to and ask what the products he uses.
