I absolutely hate rattles, and my '78 280SE has developed a beaut in the area of the glove box. How do I remove that in order to get "in there" and try to find the source of what is driving me nuts!   >:(

I have fortunately just removed mine and in the process of looking around found a loose part. To remove the glove box first gently pry the light out and then push it back up into the spot from which it came, then there are six plastic 2 part inserts, again gently pry out the center part with a small flat blade screw driver or the like and then remove the other part of the insert. Once all six are out you just need to flex the top or bottom lip of the glove box out so it clears the dash or the glove box door and then wiggle it out.
The picture shows what's behind my glove box ( I don't just show that to anyone) and the two screws that were loose. I hope this helps

That's a good picture, I assume the mesh box and assorted vacuum gadgets are part of the ACC, something we in AUS never get to see or exoerience,

Thanks for showing us yours ;)

thats the climate control amp that was loose - i wonder how that happens.

that ACC system certainly looks pretty cool.

Koan: you never got to experience the ACC system on US models? Count your many blessing, man.

I second that the USA acc SUCKS its more annoying than the 126's

Perhaps I am dense here, but I don't understand the advice, pry the light out, then push it back up into the space from which it came. What does that accomplish?

Once the 6 grommets that hold the glove box in place are removed the light is the last thing that will prevent the box from coming out.  After prying the light out you can then turn it longways and poke it back thru its hole so the box can come out.  Does that make sense?

Alternatively, once you've pryed the light out of it's hole you can also just pull the plug off the light holder and poke the plug and wires back thru the hole instead.

Makes absolute sense. Pardon my "duh" moment.  :-[
