holy sh!t that engines looking new. Excellent work ;)

I spot a continuity error, In one of the photos you show the distributor cap of the pre-update version, and all others show the later, black plastic protected type ;) Whats going on there, TJ ?

Ha, it's amazing what contrast/brightness controls can do :D :D :D

Just kidding TJ, looks awsome.  Must admit I was comparing the first and second pic for a few secs  ::) but when the third popped up it was like, Ohh! 8) 8) Awsome!

Did you paint the rocker covers, or is that what they're like stripped?

That cap was short lived... I replaced the rotor with the correct rev-limiting type and changed the cap at the same time. The one without the cover is a good spare.

The rocker covers were painted with Hi-Temp paint as recommended by Nathan. It seems to have worked well.

Yes, the lack of clip is very annoying as it's one of the first things you notice besides the remains of the old bonnet mat.  ;) The eggs would have to be deep fried at the moment, there's some oil leaking at the rear of the rocker covers.  :D

IMHO the alloy air cleaner cover is the only way to go - the black metal just can't do justice.  Won't a 560 part fit?

That clip for the expansion hose costs 7 or 8 dollars from the agents but I had trouble getting a  part number for it.

The EPC does not seem to show it clearly but it is the same part as used in the 126 V8's but positioned vertically instead of horizontally.

I gave up at diesels and purchased it from an unnamed source.

I notice you are also missing the plastic clip on the aircleaner for the cruise control cable.

Anyway the engine bay looks great - you've done a lot of work.

Did you find the part number for the expansion hose clip Bill - and the cruise control one ? I had the cruise control one, but it disappeared when I had the air cleaner repainted.

Craig - I had trouble getting the part no for the expansion hose support - I even spent an hour in Diesel Motors on their EPC trying to find the number without success. I then went to a wrecker and everyone on every car was broken but that was when I noticed that the 126 one appears identical but mounted so that it points downwards.
They are almost impossible to remove as they clip on and the plastic is brittle and breaks. As I was ordering a part from a certain person who is no longer mentioned on this forum I asked him if he had one and he sent me a brand new one for $8 from memory so I never explored the 126 possibility.

The air-cleaner clip for the cruise control cable is in the EPC and I ordered two. I think they were about $2 each  and I still have one in the packet with the part no on it waiting to go into my 450. I will post the number in the next couple of days but won't probably get down to my shed tonight.

That clipbeing the expansion tank or the cruise control ? If the expansion tank, does this mean that it is the 126 part that points in the wrong direction ?

Ah yes, the cruise control cable clip... I don't seem to have the hole for it on the installed air cleaner. I have compared it to the one on the 450, which does in fact have a hole provided for this particular clip... very confusing. Perhaps I'll just drill a hole before I respray it. Either way they're cheap, so I'll order a set along with the available stickers ASAP.  ;)

Correct - the new ones supplied to me were white but otherwise the same.

criag, the number i mentioned is for the expansion tank hose. it points inwards towards the front window and i think is larger than the original ones (this one is a larger blac plsatic one which fits perfectly)
