New appreciation for "Max"
« on: 16 September 2008, 05:59 AM »

I'm finally coming out of a 16 month long funk that has prevented much of my maintenance and repair both on cars and the house - and I'm proud to report Max is running healthy, plated and insured.

I'm still caught between frustration at the oddly anvilesque driving experience of the car and its sculptural beauty and purity.  I'm letting my best friend/Mom's helper/driver Mike drive it this week (had to put a window in my van) and to see that car in motion truly moved me.  Although I don't care for them as retrofits on Euro cars, the USA mandatory 4-headlamp system with low beams and foglamps lit to me is a very compelling reminder of the presence of these fine cars.  Somehow they subtract the distraction of the oddly massive bumpers and lend a dignity that offsets the difference between US and World models.

I've discovered new "favorite" photo angles - the full-on front and rear view:

I wish the focus was better on the rear view shot - I'll be shooting Max at that angle as soon as I find an appropriate site.

It is great to become more energetic - although oddly a serious accident with injury involving my Mark VIII (other driver was at fault) seems to have been the stimulus.  I suppose the long-term prospect of a significant settlement (my back and achilles tendon at my right ankle were injured) and the necessary exercise from physical therapy are both contributing to my higher level of function.

For those of us who were there the 116 sums up everything about the seventies.

Welcome back Max.
