Some may know that as well as my 6.9, I also have a 73 280SEL 4.5 project. After spending thousands trying to get it to run right with a number of experts, I found the right guy and he got the car running like a train. After a month of driving it at an almost daily bases, an un-insured, un-licensed motorist in a Dodge Durango rear ended me.
Fortunately she was borrowing a car and the owner of the dodge had insurance.

The damage was substantial and it took some effort to convince the insurance company not to total the car.

So the restoration work has begun on this car. The same people who did my 6.9 are doing this one and they seem a lot happier about it as this car was a Texas car all its life and has hardly any rust.

Thanks for the link. I'll certainly be checking regularly for updates. Sorry to hear about your car being in an accident and hope that you are ok but glad that you will be sharing your restoration project with us. Your dedication to these cars is inspiring.

Hey there, all said, it was good that the insurance paid out. It covers the cost of the repair and motivated me into getting the restoration started. Although I am sure I will be paying a premium for my insurance for a while. Even though the other party paid out, I am sure my premium will go up after this accident.

The 6.9 is doing pretty well, I have done a bunch of maintenance work on it in recent months including:

Transmission fluid and filter change
Brake rotors
Brake pads
Engine Mounts
Steering coupling
Rocker cover gaskets
Plugs
Wires
Fluid change
Belt change

The most recent work was to re surface the rotors as the new ones were warped and to rebuild the steering box. I still need to rebuild the radiator and the A/C system but that can wait for a couple of months. 3 cars and a new house is beginning to stress out my bank manager .

I Will be interested in spoiler, send me more details on costs and time line. I may be able to convince some of my M-100 brothers to jump in with me.

PS . I am loving the new skin on this site, it looks excellent.

The beauty isn't just skin-deep: it's a whole new engine underneath, too - a total change of system. I, too, like it - a big improvement in readability, and looks classier.

Here is a picture of my W108 in the middle of the restoration with my
Mercedes 6.9 in the background carrying a trunk full of parts for it. The 6.9 itself lived in that spot for a good long time.
