grommets behind headlights
« on: 01 November 2008, 08:12 AM »

Found this crusty old drain grommet installed at the base of the shell where the headlights install, one is missing on the other side and this one looks very sad indeed.

I absolutly cannot find it in the EPC its like it never existed.

there are 3 holes in the base of the sheet metal housing, one where the cable enters through a grommet another where a blank plug is installed and then towards the centre on both are installed these drains.

Does anyone know the part number or atleast have any in reasonable condition?

If anyone is interested, i found the part number, after countless hours staring at every section of the EPC and driving myself insane.

Part number 641 997 00 81 $7 each

Also, the flat rubber plug next to it is 000 987 1840 $2 each

Great detective work Pat.  So who do you contact, is it a dealership thing or direct from Germany.  If it's from Germany would you be interested in a group buy if a few are interested and share the postage.  PM me if you like.  I wouldn't mind getting both parts, enough for two cars but if it's from a dealer I'll just get them whenever, one day.

I'd be in that.

Where in the EPC did you find them PB?

I looked through the ru site and the paper parts book and couldn't see them

all of the body plugs and such are in "interior appointments" of all places.

On the RU sight i think its covering and lining etc.

These are dealership prices and they are in germany / singapore. No need to order outside of the dealer network at these prices.

Picked up the grommets today, as well as the seals for the rear headlight access covers.

Cant install headlights yet as i havent had the trim above them annodised yet, it has to be batch done and im yet to remove more to be done.

they are my original covers and clips, cad plated Wink

there are early and late version covers - early have a plastic thumb screw in the centre to hold them on, late have that stainless steel spring clip that holds them on...

Aha!  Should've guessed that Grin

The clips v white screw knobs - I forgot all about them.  Now that you mention it I do remember seeing the bits where the clips attach too on the upper frame behind the headlights.  Of course all my collection have screw ons including the 77 280 wreck.

My 1980 280SE has the screw-ons, but it could also be a S.A. vs German build thing.
