I personally feel, particularly from pics I've seen, that a good quality black looks quite a lot better than the grey.
I think I was once going to do it to mine (but ended up forgetting  ), as I photoshopped a pic of one of my cars and "painted" the grill black and it looked really nice, especially as it stood out more on the car's white paint colour.

in my younger days, i painted my plastic insert black - I think i may end up having to buy a new one as the paint i used was a particularly low quality.

I really dont like the greay plastic colour - it just looks dated to me, does anyone else feel the same ?

My grandfather always said his favorite color was "new".   Even if you prefer black, the new gray one looks pretty good, IMO.

Black is much sportier...  More Q-car.

Don't paint it "black" black.
Paint in in charcoal.....Looks fantastic.
I painted both my 116s as I think the light grey looks TOO effeminate!!!
I'm very happy with the way it looks, now it looks a little bit more "butch".
Hahahahaha.

Don't forget to paint it first with a plastic primer, then you can use normal acrylic.
I used a large pressure pack can.

It's looking pretty schmick. I reckon you should purchase a new grill insert and have it painted in the same fashion as a plastic bumper.
As for the air cleaner, it is the height of seriousness.

I agree with bandolero on the plastic part of the grill.  I used a GM paint that was a very dark grey but not quite black.  It was also a satin finish, or matt can't remember, but the last thing I wanted was for the grill to disappear by being stark black.  I also repainted the lower plastic grill the same colour.  Now with both the same matching dark grey it looks awsome IMO. 

I've always thought the light grey of the rad grill looked odd but have to admit that a new one looks pretty darn good.  I saw one at my mechanics two years ago and the plastic seemed darker as if all ours must fade in the sunlight over the time.  BTW, how much do they cost at the classic center macatron?  Just curious.

The gray does lighten quite a bit.

From memory, I paid about $80.  Classic Center gives a 10% discount for those in the MB club of America (which I am).
