Front seat installation, really a two person job

Got around to working on the right side of the floorpans this weekend. Getting the driver's seat out is practical enough by yourself, but getting it back in again is a pain in the butt.

Aligning the bolts was challenging, to say the least.  The method turned out to be front right, front left, rear left then rear right. None of them tightened fully until all in place.

I didn't finish everything today, I only got the Miracle Paint down, no Dynamat unfortunately. Good news is the seat mechanism is properly lubricated now, and goes up and down as well as forwards and back!

I can vouch for that. It gets even more ugly when you strip out one of the captive nuts!

I replaced my drivers side seat base a few weeks back. It took me 6 hours! I went to bed at 3 a.m. on a work night! After all that I forgot to reinstall a piece of trim and still haven't had the heart to take it all out again. Needing the POR on my floor as well, I will wait until I am ready to do that.

What a pack of wimps ! I did both my front seats by myself and it was not a problem once you learn what has to be removed and what doesn't - aka the spring. Lining up the holes is achieved easily by having a few spikes or small screwdrivers handy so that you can align the holes and "tweak" them before attempting to put the bolts in.

I must say also, i've never had issues removing or installing seats either - there are much heavier seats out there than those in w116's ;)

Yeah - try lifting out the front bench seat from my '60 Buick Electra, with 6 way power seats (3 motors). I did that one too !

Craig,
i see you one Buick seat, and raise you a w460 gwagen middle bench seat. when i had it out last time i weighed it, 75kg - no lie.  i think its because of all the metal plating which must be for anti-landmine protection or something! needless to say, i did not do this by myself!

The seats in the w116 aren't that heavy (I bench press M117s for a warm up), it's just that as soon as you have them out of the car all the mounting holes seem to move by about a cm in every direction.
