Title: Carpet interchange?
Post by: deton8r on 23 July 2008, 01:21 AM
I have a '75 and will be redoing the entire interior.  The factory carpet is bamboo multiloop.  I assume the later velour is a direct swap but I thought I would check.  Also, will the later carpet for the bolsters retrofit into the earlier w116s?  Is there any reason to pick the velour over the square weave?

The carpet should be interchangeable as well as the knee bolsters, there might be some difference in the fixings, though.

I just want to know why carpet need to interchangeable? And what are the different processes in doing that? I find the idea good but I don't know where to start and how to do it.

Changing the carpet is quite an involved process, as to do the whole lot required removal of the seats, and the center console.

If you just need the removable floor sections, it is simply a matter of pulling out the old ones and fitting a better set of your choice.
