I just won a "NEW" authentic w116 AMG rear spoiler on eBay tonight ;D. The seller claims to have purchased it in 1980 and never installed it. He had a separate auction for a new Zender rear spoiler that looks very similar to the AMG and the bids didn't even get to $5 USD. He had a reserve but I believe it was set at $100 at least on the AMG one I won. There's a good chance the Zender will get relisted. He's also selling a complete 6.9 engine with a Buy It Now of $1599.

I know the AMG rear spoiler is made of a soft flexible material. How do they mount? Are they glued on or will I have to drill holes into my boot lid? Also, are these paintable? I have never seen a w116s with the AMG rear spoiler in person. I have seen a w126 with an AMG spoiler that was painted but it may have been fiberglass.
Ahh yes, the "rubber sausage". ;D
I'm not aware of seeing one installed on a W116, but they are quite common on R107's. Perhaps they are glued on with contact adhesive? It should become apparent when you receive the item in any case.

Most spoiler mountings require the boot to be drilled.

I saw that listing and actually have the same one (also not installed). It does in fact have two bolts built into it. So holes would be required.
Thanks!
