I have a few sets of Recaro seats from a late 70's BMW 320is I was thinking about installing. Does anyone have photos of Recaros or other aftermarket front seats in a W116?

Yes, I've got Recaros in my 6.9. I'll take pic tomorrow and post.

never ceases to amaze me the topics that get raised and the questions that get asked in this forum.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics also.

Hey, John,

Last week I set down in the driver's seat of my 6.9 and something went Ping! Alas it seems that after nearly 40 years the springs are beginning to give up the ghost. One option for me is to rebuild the seats with new leather, etc, etc. However, I wonder if from a pragmatic perspective it may be worth doing something like you. Do you have any links and can you give an idea of the costs?

Thanks,
Adam

I'm currently in the process of adapting some coil spring seats from a 108. Not particularly easy, but doable. The torsion springs in my current 116 seat are shot. I know mercedessource has a repair kit, but I really like the way those old seats sat.

Guys

One of my better decisions was getting these seats. I love them as they offer great lumbar support enabling me to drive the 6.9 for hours without lower back pain. My first though was to re-do the original seats however, for lumbar support you need something ridged in there that new cushioning will press against. Simply putting in foam is a waste of time and only a temporary fix. Don't recall the model of Recaros I eventually selected. They are leather but not the top model which would have been with power controls. Check your Recaro dealer and have them email the brochure. Mine were pricey because I chose the leather but worth every penny.

They look quite good in there. The black/black colour combo looks badass.

The stock seats definitely lack lateral support.

I've thought about sport seats as well but run up against the floor mounting issue. How did you deal with the forward mounts with respect to the HVAC ducting?

Ducting removed. Seats actually sit a bit lower than originals. Considering inserting a spacer under frame.
