6.9 Rice
« on: 22 July 2008, 12:00 PM »

While waiting for my bumpers to be rechromed, i found something questionable to do - rice my new licence plate harness.

They are a little brighter than expected and cast alot of light on the road behind the car, this shouldnt be such a problem when the bumpers are installed....  Roll Eyes

I reckon it looks good, particularly with the exhaust tailpipes. The new chrome is going to look spectacular.
Is that a portable sun device I see in the background?  Wink

It sure is one of those $29 POS chinese halogen tripods, with the lamps rated for 3 minutes of life.  Roll Eyes Naturally, only one spotlights is working out of the 4 tripods we have here.

What's next, fluros under the sills Grin

Actually it looks pretty good, beats the dull yellow glow. Cool
One thing I'd like to do is put something that bright in the reverse lamps.  My lenses are clear but I can't see where I'm reversing in the dark.  Just not bright enough.  Are they LED's you're using?

I'm not sure why you are advertising your rego to the regulators of law and order in such clarity. Roll Eyes

Tell me you've wired this up to the interior light switch so you can make a safe getaway.

In the early 1990's they were proposing to ban radar detectors and I wired up a small "passport"  detector to the interior light switch.

It taped up to the top of the 126 instrument nacelle inside with the instruments and I connected up an extra small speaker.

The top of a 126 instrument pod sits higher than the sight-line across the rear lip of the bonnet and in days pre-laser it gave perfectly adequate performance when picking up the K-band radar used before the multinovas and Lasers arrived and could be turned off if stopped by the constabulary using the rear interior light switch on the console.

The law never arrived but the detector sat in there for four years and worked quite adequately.

Ive never had licence plate lights in the 116 before - both globes were blackend and blown and i had a hard time finding replacements (didn't actually look very hard)

When i pulled off all that dicast chrome on the rear, that houses the lights, it was all full of that orange dirt, the licence plate globe harness was all rotten and the contacts rusty so i wasn't going to bother with this. There was one harness left in the world, in germany and i bought it. Tongue I'm sure there are others still around though.

The 1 watt LED's and aluminum heatsinks are encapsulated within a standard festoon housing, and as such, do not modify the harness at all. I also bought some for the interior lights. And are equally hospital sterile white, just the way i like things.  Roll Eyes

I nearly purchased one of those "sunbeam" Halogen lights but realising the temperature my shed gets to in summer I ended up with the other version of the same thing that has two large fluorescent type globes.

Much cooler on a hot summer night.

Yes, it seems to take forever for parts to ship from Germany. Still no sign of my water pump bolts, washers and gaskets either.

when i ordered the water pump screws etc, that order dribbled in over a 2 month period. Very average.

I guess most people just obtain their own screws.

Why did you order these from Germany - or was this a dealer decision ? You will get much better service if you order direct from Tom Hanson at the MB Classic Center in the US.

I'm yet to do any ordering from the classic centre in the USA, not even 100% sure on how to do so ?

If it can be done by email for part numbers and a phone call for credit card details ill be happy - cant be bothered prattling off part numbers on the phone. I print lists, bang my fists on the counter and throw them at the dealer parts guy and walk out.
