Wow!

Don't know whether this is strictly MB, but in the current issue of Unique Cars (Aussie) magazine is a report on the Pebble Beach Concours with a Daimler double-six winning best-in-show. It says the resto cost $200,000. The wheels stand 94cm tall and I can't remember much else because I can't find the damn magazine.  Anyway this photo on the concours website is the same pic that's in the mag. But gee, what a car, look at the length of the bonnet/hood. Apparently not much power but it did have tree-stump pulling torque.

Well it's official. Oscarette will become a mercedes junkie if she can have John Lennon's grosser.  She loves the Beatles, always wanted a VW beetle built the same year she was born (1970).  What a perfect gift for this Xmas.  But I quote BigR - These cars are in the "if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it" segment. - How much??

I find it interesting this quote in the description:
This car first was owned by John Lennon (The Beatles) who sold it later to his friend George Harrison.  ???  His friend George Harrison, now why does that name sound familiar  ;D I should email them and inform them George was a beatle too. Then again that'll just up their asking price and put it out of my reach ::)

There was a 220seb owned by Madonna up for sale on ebay a month or so ago.  Don't know whether someone here gave me the link or not but that would have been interesting to see what it went for.

Apparently she owned it, there was photo of her in it and it was used in a film clip of hers during the 80's and from memory there was no papers with her sig on it to prove she owned it.  MMmm. sounded convincing in the ad.

Stumbled on this post (I'm new to the W116 forum), and I have some information about Madonna's car. It was a 280 SE convertible, 1969, in white with black leather. It was her personal car, and it was used in the video for her song "Deeper and Deeper." I actually have an old "World of Interiors" magazine that had her Miami house featured, and the 280 SE was in the driveway. But in June 1995, she auctioned it at Sotheby's to help raise money for a Tina Modotti photography exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I have a copy of the catalog pages from Sotheby's, with a handwritten note that the car sold for $56,350 including the premium. Sure enough, the car ended up on eBay in September 2006: The top bid was $47,600, which didn't meet the seller's reserve. I haven't discovered what happened to the car next. Madonna has had another M-B, a black 560 SL. That ended up on eBay a couple of years ago, too. It had been won in a radio giveaway in Portland, Oregon, and I think it was that person who was selling it. So Madonna does have a flair for the stylish M-B cabriolets...

Here she is, in the 280 SE in the "Deeper and Deeper" video:
