I've been driving the 280 all week to the workshop whilst I assemble another piece of junk.  What a wonderful car the W116 is!  Here it is next to another 1970s marvel, a 1975 Ferrari 365 Boxer.

ill take it if you dont want it! ;)  does the 123 wagen remain your daily driver?

I don't really have a daily Nathan, except I don't drive the 280 W116 in the wet.  So the weather dictates where that goes.  The others I don't care.  The 300 TD is great when I have to pick up and move stuff (regularly) and for the audio hobby it's a must.  I tend to drive a car for 3-4 days, clean it and put it away for two weeks and move to the next.  Unfortunately I have 8 cars which is just friggin stupid.  (Three in pieces, glacially coming together)

The XWX was the tyre of choice for pretty much everything in the 1970s, Ferrari included.  The 365 Boxer used a 215/70-15 XWX front and rear, the 512 boxer 215/70 on the front and a unique 225/70-15 on the rear.  That 365 in the pics is a nasty thing, very poorly restored.  It carries a 512 rear deck, which lookes the same but 2" wider to cover the wider rear wheels over the 365.  The car has the 9" wide rear rims which are correct for a 512, but not a 365, which should be 7 1/2.  It's shod with Yokohama 352s which is completely the wrong tyre for it.

Boxers are quite fast too, a drive some years back down to Philip Island:

Carl, your bumpers are aligned soooo perfectly!!!
Most 116's have had their bumpers bumped and then they all sit scew - and it makes them look hideous. I really bugs me.
Just look at how streamline and beautiful your car looks due to them straight bumpers.

Phew!!! rant over.

Yeah, the bumpers on that 280 are nice.  I get a lot comments on that car at the servo.  Usually from old crusty types that say they don't make them like they used to!

Rob, VM left as of this evening.  I see your W126 and was wondering if you want to sell a few bits.

Regards,
