Not even an Audi owner??  8)

As written on the Audi forum:
http://www.audiforums.com/m_693578/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#693578

Hey guys, I've got a 98 1.8T. I've had a k04 and chip for a while and
wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish
the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do
it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we
decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and
hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas
so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through
the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so
it would port the exhaust manifold.

I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK
as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After
running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way
through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was
bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked
the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start
it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and
kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started
to make scraping and knocking noises.

Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he
doesn't know much about Audis.

:D :D  It's gotta be a joke.  One of those setups that make every forum go and have a look.  I HOPE IT IS. ???

But I love some of the advice

-Better add some water to the crank case to thin some of that sand out first.
Yup, just add water until it starts overflowing out of the oil cap /fill hole, and then youll be good.

and
-The problem is, you did it wrong.  You gotta do the fuel system sand blasting treatment first.  25lbs in the gas tank, and THEN 25 lbs through the intake.......... DUH. :D

wow, ancient post dragged up from the dead ;)

a large quantity of Audi owners stick their noses up at MB's calling them over priced junk, these kinds of comments can be seen throughout youtube on videos relating to MB's.

The question has to be asked however, how many old Audi's do you see still on the road versus how many old MB's, that kinda contradicts what some of them believe.

I personally find them all to be very bland looking vehicles, like most VW products, except for the R8.

Yesmar

yeah me personally i love vag cars audi's n vw's i think the "bland" look is classic. imo
and i love mercedes too

and right you are about the reliability regarding audi's i had an old a4 blow up ... literally.

i would never say an audi is superior to mb. and ive owned a couple of audi's and benz's

the audi group is definitely younger and a bit more immature. and feel the need to "prove" what ever car THEY own is better then everything else on the road.

but after owning both i will say the quattro 4wheel drive system is better then the 4matic

but hey in the end we still have 2 merc's sitting in front of our house and no audi's ... for now.

the Audi quattro system was legendary and dominated in the rally world when it was introduced many years ago - from memory that is.

Wasn't it the very reason the baby Benz 190e came to be a retail product after specifically being designed for racing, then the project being scrapped due to it being rwd only ?

I'll have to drive an Audi one day to see what they are all about.

when it comes to rally (offroad) yes
i would take a 2.5 rwd 190 on a road course over ... say an any audi before 1996

your really not missing much. but if you want to drive a "drivers" car try out a b5 s4 1997-2001.5 it must be stick

and if its stock... thats only at most, a quarter of its potential.   :o

edit: I've gone way off subject, but need i bring up the v10tdi?

i guess Audi to me resembles a fast (quick) approach to "SPORT"= a breakthrough type.

and Mercedes equals longevity, class, reliability, dare i say imperial type

then again, you put 25.lbs of sand in a Benz engine, I'm sure it wouldn't hold up much better.  :P

Here's a true story,

Ford had a little problem with the 5.0 (302) engine in the late 1980s, a production change meant that some of them just wouldn't seat the oil rings and used a couple of quarts every 3000 miles - not OK with a new car.

Well, I had a little dealer in the mountains of Tennessee who never needed a new engine - his warranty costs were way low, so I asked what was up when I visited there ((  I was a Ford travelling engineer ))

His shop foreman told me to come back Tuesday.

Anyway, here's a brand new Town Car, revved to about 4000 rpm, and the tech was slowly pouring MINUTE RICE (pre-cooked instant rice) into the intake!!

OMG the noise!!  (plus they had dropped the catalytic converters to avoid plugging.

Just to show the "Yankee", they then pulled the head from a truck they had done a year before..... you never saw a more beautifully honed cylinder....the slight abrasive in the rice had perfectly honed the cylinders without a teardown.

But SAND!  OMG!!
