My new 126
« on: 19 May 2008, 07:34 PM »

This last weekend my friend from the Free State informed me about a 1984 280 SE in his town that had come up for sale. Its lady-owner whom he had known since a kid had recently passed away and now the grankids wanted to get rid of it.
So I bought it!
83 000kms with FSH, light metallic green (not quite thistle more sea-green) with unmarked, uncreased tan leather - it genuinely smells new.
There is not a stone chip nor as much as a finger dent on that car and the paint is as good as new - garaged all its life. I honestly don't think it could be in better condition.
All for R32 000 ( between A$5000 and A$6000 or US$4000)
Thankfully, there is no alarm system or other security device fitted, so nothing has been tampered with.
First, I'm going to remove those horrible fender-trims, then its going in for a major service, incl new valve stem seals, and then 5 new Michelins, and that's all it needs!

83,000kms too!  It amazes me sometimes how the odd one escapes from being used as long distance touring car over the years.  This 280 like a beauty pompy.  Looking forward to the pics.

Hi Pompy,

Well done, you'll really love it, please post some pics!  To inspire you to do so, I also have a W126 280 SE, here it is, similar mileage to yours.

Regards,

Carl.

Hi S Class,

Thanx, I'm leaving for JHB Monday morning and will be there 'till June the 2nd. It looks like I'll be free next Friday during the day 'till about 6pm - would that suit you for a quick howzit and druel over yr limo's?

Carl, thanx, yours looks awesome - what colour green/model yr is it?
I see your's has ABS - mine don't, we didn't get that 'till the facelifted version.

I'm actually getting the car today - my mate's driving it down from the Free State - he says it feels like a ship - now that's my kinda car!
Pics to follow this weekend.

Can't wait for the pics Pompy!

I guess you are madly driving around in it which is why we haevn't seen any yet Smiley  Mine is Thisle Green, it was manufactured in October 1982.  The Australian cars were quite high specification, ABS, climate control, paint protection, electric windows, self levelling and a few other things I can't recall.  Mine has two options, the sunroof and oddly, walnut instead of zebrano timber.

Regards,

Carl.

Ummmmmm, no Nathan!

My next car will have a V8 and displace about 6.9 litres or a flat 12 and displace 4.4 or 5.0 Smiley

Carl.

The 6.9 V8 has me stumped Roll Eyes but I'm guessing a Ferrari for the flat 12 only coz I don't know anyone else that makes flat 12's and the most famous flat 12 ferrari would be this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeUMDY01uUA trust me, you'll watch it and go phwah! Cool
