The car on the right is for people who like to use DriveThru fast food outlets. ;D

And the car on the left is for people that like to take a picnic basket on country drives.

They certainly are Carl. even small vehicles and 'mid size' vehicles seem to dwarf our 116s.
Dad has a GL500 he bought new a few years ago.  I have been driving it the last week whilst waiting for a 'small ding' to be removed from my E63.  As a person with a family including small kids, the thing is as handy as you could ask for.  It is as large inside as would be on the market, even the 6 and 7 seats in the rear have plenty of room for adults.  sound suppression is great and its not a monster height wise, so even my vertically challenged wife can get in easy.  Saying this, putting a kid in a child seat in the middle is not so easy for her due to this height, and her normal E class wagen is much easier in this respect.  The GL is also a beast in length and width, and parking is not so easy in tight spots.  Height is not an issue like it is in the Gwagen, saying that, even the new Gwagen drives like a truck compared to this thing which is very simple to drive despite its size.  The 5.4L V8 embarrasses most things but sports cars. Attached is a short muted video taken by my 8 year old camera man yesterday as i drove to a family meet, with the wife in the GL.

Our regular drive is a Mercedes Viano 6 seater. It can come with 8 and is the most useful vehicle we have ever had and there have been a lot. Its longer than the 116 a bit wider and over 6 feet high. We have had no problems with it as an ideal family vehicle with seats that can turn to face each other and a good size  folding table in the middle. It will go into most multi-storey car parks. Although it takes me some time to get out of a Hilton hotel car park I visit occasionally but that is particularly restricted. Would still recommend the Viano this is our second.  Having said all that it is parked next to the 116 and I have never thought it made the 116 look small. Most MPVs/people carriers have quite short bonnets and I still think that sitting behind the 116's makes it seem very big.

Gosh! That really is big! Friends and I used to comment on the size of w126s,w140s and ls 400 series cars. They seem to disappear into the crowds now.

I used to think my 928 was a big car....until I parked it next to a Maserati Ghibli.

"You've bought another bloody car?!? We should have you committed!" he shrieked, storming out of the room
