chrysler was a mercedes company from 1998 to 2007.

even the genuine 600 ES badge looks like its a direct copy or modification of a mercedes badge, but in the 80s there was no such thing as a mercedes 600SE anyway so theres no real problem.

Haha!  I suspect Mercedes wasn't too worried anyone would confuse their car with the Dodge...

But these were from the early 80's MT - was there any relationship between the two companies then?

Typeface = same.  Manufacturing/layout/design of badge = looks identical.  Numbers = seemingly designed to confuse the market.  There could have been a valid trademark claim against this thirty years ago but it's probably a bit late now!

putting a badge on a dodge doesn't miraculously change it into a Mercedes.  8)

Intentionally misleading badges are quite sad, in that they're pretending you own something that they really don't, probably in a desperate attempt to get attention or acceptance by certain members of the public. But hey, if their life is that sad and it's the only thing keeping the owner going everyday and stops him from putting a gun to his head, then good on him    :-*

Ah, you noticed my badge for sale. I actually bought it thinking it was for an M100-powered Mercedes, then found out it was made for a Dodge. The badge does not look right on a Dodge. If anyone wants it, let me know.

MT - I find those 318s with the badges prised off and a couple pieces of M-looking fairings bolted on endlessly amusing for exactly that reason.

318's are a joke, get a real bmw I say, not an overpriced corolla.

I was unaware of this badge until I saw the ebay listing.  I Wiki'ed it, and sure enough.  Certainly quite a curiosity.  I was mildly tempted to buy, just for the curiosity value.  You know, put the badge on my 280SE, and really stuff with the guys at the MB club...

Thinking about it now, I guess the way it was done was to retain the horizontal bar from the 450SEL badge, and graft the 6 and 9 in place of the 4 and 5, making the joins in the black painted band.  This way, any required touch-ups could have been done with black paint.  Neat indeed.

That would also probably how those 7.2 and 7.3 custom badges are made - use a 6.9 badge to get the horizontal bar and the dot, 2 and 3 from 280 and 350 respectively..... but the 7 ????  was there perhaps a commercial vehicle with the same script containing a 7 in the designation?
