THere is a growing following of 'extreme car sports'.  I've seen videos of guys doing this on indoor, giant half-pipe trupe structures in big warehouses.  And no, it doesn't always go well.

i can assure you young mr pb, this is a 'slight' exageration of what probably happened.
saying that, people love to trash ladas...costing from a few hundred bucks, ive been on trips with guys who roll these things, then just leave them there and go home!

In 1982 in Dunedin I walked into the Lada agent and put one on my Amex Card.

Not one of my more brilliant motoring moments but it would beat the crowds up the ski-field roads and had a brilliant rough road soft ride.

The agent and I attempted to fix a number of irritating vibrations and minor problems but they were all unfixable and while the car was quite reliable the gloss soon faded.

I sold it after a year and got nearly all my money back.

It did a lot of mud and snow work very well but I never drove it up cliffs like that.

You have new found respect in my book Bill!

youd have to think a niva would weight less than a suzuki sierra wouldnt it?

Niva's are actually quite heavy due to the very heavy gauge steel used in their construction.

Much heavier than a sierra but they had a lovely gearchange and reasonable performance for what they were due to the 60's Fiat-copy 124 engine and gearbox.

They would run up to 80 MPH but anything over 60 mph was deafening - probably helped contribute to my high frequency hearing loss.

i wish we could buy something like a lada here for a few hundred bucks. a cheap rattle bucket of bolts and metal skin here would cost about 60k second hand.
such is the market we live in here.
just heard that ghana has removed all trade restrictions and duties, so if that could happen here we would be having a growth spurt and lots of cheaper parts for cars and 116's especially.
